Apple passes Amazon to become the #3 US music retailer

Apple passes Amazon to become the #3 US music retailer – Filed under: Portable Audio, Portable Video Things must seem pretty rosy in Cupertino — just a week before the mega-hyped launch of you-know-what, market research group NPD’s quarterly survey shows Apple has passed Amazon to become the third biggest music retailer in the US. This isn’t the biggest of surprises, since Steve himself predicted that the iTunes Store would overtake Amazon at the Showtime event back in September, but the leap to #3 is a little unexpected, since Apple also outpaced Target last quarter. iTunes is now rocking a 10% market share, just behind Wal-Mart at 16% and Best Buy at 14%, and while we don’t expect to see it pass those two giants anytime soon, we’d bet that uptick in DRM-free sales has got the iTMS crew at Apple licking their chops.   Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments Office Depot Featured Gadget: Xbox 360 Platinum System Packs the power to bring games to life! Darpa funds invisible, shoot-through shield -

In a move seemingly influenced in equal parts by Halo and David Lynch's film Dune, Darpa has announced that it's ponying up $15 million to develop one-way-invisible, self-healing, shoot-through shields for use in urban combat. While the Pentagon's research division acknowledges that there are "significant technical obstacles" in the process, it's fairly gung-ho about developing a technology combining metamaterials, 'coded' obscurant systems, and a bunch of other stuff no one really understands. Trust us, you'll thank them if the Harkonens try and overthrow your spice-mining operation.

AT&T LG Prada-ish phone leaked

More information about the Prada phone in regards to the US version.
AT&T LG Prada-ish phone leaked - Woosah. You have no idea how much this leak pisses me off, but that’s neither here nor there. The Gizza has the scoop on the US AT&T version of the LG Prada, which is the CU920 and not the KE850. This, however, seems to be much better with supposed 3G and it’s pretty lightweight. It has iPhone-like zooming when browsing, but a few more steps required. Who knows when this sucker is going to be announced, but the two main touchscreen rivals on the same network? Like whoa.AT&T LG Prada Spy Shots

Microsoft backports Vista features for new Windows XP SP3 beta

Microsoft knows that XP will still be alive on desktops for the next 2-3 years before hardware will be put in place to utilize Vista. Therefore they have made available some of the features within Vista, in a new service pack for XP. At this point, Vista is really buggy and crashes often. I've even reverted back to XP after continued nightmares with Vista. I hope the new service for Vista brings some stability to the operating system that was originally slated to replace XP, but hasn't done so quite yet.
