In a display of forgiveness and bridge building on behalf of the FSF, ZDNet reports that the final draft of the GPLv3 will close the infamous MS-Novell loophole while allowing deals made previously to continue. From the article: ‘The final, last-call GPLv3 draft bans only future deals for what it described as tactical reasons in a 32-page explanation of changes. That means Novell doesn’t have to worry about distributing software in SLES that’s governed by the GPLv3 … Drafting the new license has been a fractious process, but Eben Moglen, the Columbia University law school professor who has led much of the effort, believes consensus is forming. Microsoft knows that XP will still be alive on desktops for the next 2-3 years before hardware will be put in place to utilize Vista. Therefore they have made available some of the features within Vista, in a new service pack for XP. At this point, Vista is really buggy and crashes often. I've even reverted back to XP after continued nightmares with Vista. I hope the new service for Vista brings some stability to the operating system that was originally slated to replace XP, but hasn't done so quite yet.

I remember the first Celerons or 'Cellys' back in the day. Cheap and relatively good for someone who can only work on one task at a time. Not for an uber geek or insane multi-tasker as you would be able to tell whether or not you were using a Celeron by just sitting down and using the PC for 15 minutes. Either way, an affordable alternative to the current Intel Core Duos.

Comcast traffic blocking: even more apps, groupware clients affected

More information about the supposed filters that Comcast has implemented to curb Bittorrent traffic on its network. Only now it looks as though the appplication suit Lotus Notes is affected.
Last week, we reported on mounting evidence that Comcast is targeting and disrupting BitTorrent traffic on its network. Further digging by interested parties has turned up more indication that BitTorrent isn't the only popular P2P protocol being tampered with by the United States' largest ISP.

The Russian Mafia Doesn’t Like Spam Either

This is a very interesting read, it looks as though Spammer Alexy Tolstokozhev was found murdered within his spam-bought estate.
We all know how annoying can spam be. Although there are highly sophiscated tools nowadays, which can reduce the amount of spam in your mailbox to the minimum, it’s still at least unpleasent to see all those “penis enlargement” mails. But people working in this “business” aren’t safe anymore: Alexey Tolstokozhev (btw, in Russian his name means ‘Thick Skin’), a Russian spammer, was found murdered in his luxury house near Moscow. He has been shot several times with one bullet stuck in his head. According to authorities, this last head shot is a clear mark of russian hit men (known as “killers” in Russia). Tolstokozhev was a famous spammer who sent millions of e-mail promoting viagra, cialis, penis enlargement pills and other medications.
