Good Ways To Join an Open Source Project? – Tathagata asks: “I’m a student, on my final year in a college in India, and I have been using GNU/Linux for quite sometime now. Though I’m from a Computer Science background, getting into a project that involves serious programming was not possible, as people (read teachers) run away if you utter the word ‘Linux’. They are generally not bothered about mentoring someone on an exciting project, and they would suggest you to get settled with Visual Basic, .NET, — and would prefer a 24 hour solution when it comes to programming. So, my programming endeavors have remained limited to writing few lines of C/C++, or Java. For last few days, I’ve been googling, and trying to read how to join an existing Open Source project.” What suggestions would you pass along to someone who is willing to join his first Open Source effort? Dell has only been offering Ubuntu for over a month now. I haven't heard all that much in regards to their Support, I wonder if Microsoft is giving dell $$ to not Support Ubuntu on computers sold for Home Office/Business purposes?
Dell Refuses to Sell Ubuntu to Business - An anonymous reader writes "I had a surreal experience with Dell today. My boss asked me to order a new computer for our small, non-profit business. Wanting to support Dell in their decision to sell computers with Ubuntu installed, I decided to order one. First, I talked to a small business representative, who informed me that I could not order one of the Ubuntu-based computers through the small business department. I had to go through the "home and home office" department. I called the Home office department. I asked the representative if I could buy one of the ubuntu computers for my company. She said (and I quote), "these Dell computers are designed for personal use only, as long as you use it for personal use, you can purchase one." So I lied and said I would.... Next, I tried to buy it on our business credit card. They would have none of that. She told me that I had to buy it through a personal card. Now, as a non-profit, our business does not pay sales tax (10% in Tennessee). Had I bought it with my own card, I would have had to pay tax (~$90), which my company would not have reimbursed me for. So.....no Dell today."

Google using Digg style voting for searches

The popular site Digg is know all over the globe, a site that allows user submissions of articles on the web. Once "Dugg" other users can vote for the articles they like, as the amount of votes rise the articles are put onto the front page of digg. Lots of sites have followed took this idea and based the their site on specific content as well as media. Google is now providing the same type of idea, allow you to add, move or remove search results.
