This is a really neat idea. You can roll all of your scripted installations for all of your distributions into one application, instead of configuring each distributions application. For example, if you wanted to install RedHat, you no longer need Kickstart. The same would go for Ubuntu, no more preseed. Just one application to handle all of the scripted installations. Thinking about getting an iPhone, unlocking it, then jetting across the street to T-Mobile? Better think twice before doing that friend, ’cause AT&T is out to nail you with a hefty fine for backing out of your agreement with them. Despite the iPhone not being a subsidized item for AT&T, the company still will charge you $175 for terminating your contract early. Sucky, I know.

Like I’ve said in the past, AT&T needs to retain these iPhone customers that will swarm stores next week. Imposing a cancellation fee of that caliber sucks, but it’s how the world works. No word if customers with existing accounts will be subject to the fee.

If you were tasked with building a time zone synching application, you could probably do it in less than 1MB. Maybe you Linux guys could write it in one line of Perl (or at least brag about having the ability to write it in one line of Perl). Hell, maybe you'd just use the built-in synching functionality in your favorite OS. Anyhow, I can't imagine the crazy Western Australian rules for calculating time that make this software baloon to 4GB.

MySQL, Thread Caching, Linux and a busy site!

Heres an article that helped me with an issue over at a friends site http://www.ftatalk.com Their site was exploding and they need to tune out the current server as much as possible. One thing that I noticed was that MySQL wasn't tuned properly. So After making some changes and finding out that there was no thread caching, I searched the web and found this article.
Wow, it's been a busy week. I was totally swamped for several days dealing with the remember.yahoo.com MySQL servers and related stuff. And then I used a day or two to recover (sleep, shower, etc). Anyway, I made some interesting discoveries along the way. The most surprising one had to do with thread caching on Linux when you have a busy MySQL server--busy in a particular way, mind you.
