Vision Robotics' harvesting machines edge closer to the farm – Filed under: Misc. Gadgets In just eight short months, the automated harvesting machines at Vision Robotics have apparently come quite a ways. Currently, funding is flowing in from growers’ associations who are “very nervous about the availability and cost of labor in the near future,” which has allowed the company to move forward in developing a pair of robots to pluck fruit from trees or vines. The duo would work in succession as the first robotic “scout” would scan the area and construct a 3D map with the location of each item that needs captured; the “harvester” would follow behind and pick the fruits that its eagle-eyed teammate mapped out. The firm has reportedly reached the build phase on the complex machines, and while a prototype or two should be ready to rock by next year, we’re unlikely to see these go mainstream before the next decade. The good people over at TMCnet want to keep you covered with their lengthy review of Redmond's five-camera foray into the teleconferencing game, which, as part of Microsoft's Unified Communications Platform, will probably be seeing a lot of action this year. And what are their feelings? Well, they get stoked on its resemblance to the ships in the 1953 version of War of the Worlds, dig the "head-size spatial equalization" (which makes everyone's head the same size, seriously), and think that maybe $3000 is a fair price. The only thing they weren't quite as excited about was the inability to use the panoramic features with non-Ballmerware, but even that appears to be a minor complaint. Still not sure you need one for your startup? Maybe you'd better read the whole thing.

samhain 2.3.5 (Default branch) - samhain is a daemon that can check file integrity, search the file tree for SUID files, and detect kernel module rootkits (Linux only). It can be used either standalone or as a client/server system for centralized monitoring, with strong (192-bit AES) encryption for client/server connections and the option to store databases and configuration files on the server. For tamper resistance, it supports signed database/configuration files and signed reports/audit logs. It has been tested on Linux, FreeBSD, Solaris, AIX, HP-UX, and Unixware.

Drupal Day 1

So, this is what Day 1 is like. I have a nice theme that I got off the main Drupal site. As you can see its sleep and colorful but not overwhelming. Aside from messing with the general configuration of Drupal, there is a lot more you need to do to make it even remotely functional/organized. Lets take categories for instance. At first I didn't know exactly how these worked. However after some playing around, and further posting. I was able to separate my blog entries and the HOWTO's. I just create a new Category for each, and then provide terms to place them under which is a great feature.
