RESTORE 4.0a28-1 (Default branch)

This is a similar application to PC Backup, both are software managed backups which are open sourced and free as in beer. I will be doing a review of this software if time permits, as it does look really good instead of manual rsync backups. RESTORE 4.0a28-1 (Default branch) – RESTORE is an enterprise network backup and recovery solution for Windows, Novell, Mac OS X (data fork), Unix, and Linux systems. It is scalable to a complete backup solution for multiple workstations, servers, and data centers. It operates over local area networks, wide area networks, and the Internet.

AT&T LG Prada-ish phone leaked

More information about the Prada phone in regards to the US version.
AT&T LG Prada-ish phone leaked - Woosah. You have no idea how much this leak pisses me off, but that’s neither here nor there. The Gizza has the scoop on the US AT&T version of the LG Prada, which is the CU920 and not the KE850. This, however, seems to be much better with supposed 3G and it’s pretty lightweight. It has iPhone-like zooming when browsing, but a few more steps required. Who knows when this sucker is going to be announced, but the two main touchscreen rivals on the same network? Hard times for hard drives: US may ban popular imports

This could be a damaging blow to quite a few companies within the United States. For instance, take a dedicated server hosting company that relies on one of many hardware vendors like Dell or HP (Hewlett-Packard). Its possible that said vendor will have stock pile of hard drives. Put lets put this into perspective. If you read the entire article you will see a similar situation that ended with Broadcom filing a complaint against Qualcomm. The International Trade Commission banned Qualcomm from shipping any new chips and hardware into the United Sates, and any chips that were already being shipped to the United States could continue. The ban lasted for 45 days, until an appeal by Qualcomm was successful and then the ban was lifted.

Splunk 3.1: A search engine that indexes all your servers logs, scripts, code and message traps

I had the chance to try Splunk out about 3 months ago. The software was rather easy to install, however one thing that did seem to a little hard to use was the interface and the general working with inputs for the software. The search function was really neat, and easy to find errors that were occurring. The free version is limited but still usable, in a larger environment this product would probably be a life saver. Single server deployments, not so much.
