After searching for some time on an easy way to protect an internal wiki. I found the following article useful. It goes in-depth into what you would need to change on a base MediaWiki configuration to only allow registered users to see the content within the Wiki. After following all the steps I know am able to login to my private Wiki over SSL! Thus allowing me to keep all my private and important notes online!

I’ve been using an amalgamation of hacks to track all the information I want to be able to recall later: del.icio.us for bookmarks, gmail for contacts and random notes, private blog entries for some organized content, and tracks for tracking projects. Blech. It’s just too much. My memory is too weak. What I really want is a comprehensive PIM (Personal Informatio Manager). And so I installed MediaWiki because that’s what Wikipedia uses and that’s what Dreamhost offers as a One-Click Install (e.g. the path of least resistance).

I thought I’d share with you all the the process of customizing the default install to create a private wiki. Following are the specifics to my install but this will probably be helpful to many with a different host or newer version.

Notepad++ v4.1 released - Notepad++ is a free generic source code editor (and Notepad replacement), which supports several programming languages, running under the MS Windows environment. The version 4.1 is available. In this release not only the interface of Find in files dialog is improved distinctly, but find, replace and find in files dialogs are now 3 in 1. The version 1.73 of Scintilla include the CMake lexer. And just by chance, I worked a lot with CMake recently at work, so I updated Scintilla from v1.71 to v1.73, and supports the language of CMake. CMakeLists.txt is also available for the source code of Notepad++ (in "src" directory). It's tested only with the generation of VC project file, but not with the generation of MinGW makefile. 3 new plugins are added in this release : SpellChecker, NppExec and QuickText. SpellChecker help you to corect the tipos in your document. You should have aspell instaled to make it work. With NppExec plugin you can execute your commands or saved scripts without leaving Notepad++. It makes you triple your productivity! QuickText is a snippet manager. Once you define all your snippet in you beloved language, type the macro keyword then Ctrl+Enter - I can hear you say "wow". Another new feature is the clickable URL (http only). It's rather a gadget, but I like it. v4.1 fixed bugs and added features (from v4.0.2) : 1. Fix the crash issue while saving settings on quit. 2. Fix the crash issue while using the command line with one launched Notepad++ instance. 3. Enhance Find in files feature : * Improve Find in files user interface (more intuitive). * The search result (also for find in all opened files) is docked on the bottom of Notepad++. * Recursive search is optional. * Search result is collapsable by file. * User defined keywords for search result. 4. Add tabbing interface in Find dialog : Find/Replace/Find in files 5. Add clickable URL http link feature (double click to trigger). 6. Add cmake language support. 7. Add mark all without launching Find dialog (Ctrl+M). 8. Fix the ROFL (Recent Opened File List) bug : try to open a non-existing file from ROFL, the full file path doesn't be removed from ROFL. 9. Enhance the backup feature : in verbose mode, the file will be backed up in .\nppBackup directory. 10. Heres an article that helped me with an issue over at a friends site http://www.ftatalk.com Their site was exploding and they need to tune out the current server as much as possible. One thing that I noticed was that MySQL wasn't tuned properly. So After making some changes and finding out that there was no thread caching, I searched the web and found this article.

Wow, it's been a busy week. I was totally swamped for several days dealing with the remember.yahoo.com MySQL servers and related stuff. And then I used a day or two to recover (sleep, shower, etc). Anyway, I made some interesting discoveries along the way. The most surprising one had to do with thread caching on Linux when you have a busy MySQL server--busy in a particular way, mind you.

QuickPwn release removes the need to do an iTunes restore!

The iphone-dev.org has created a new means of Jail Breaking your iPhone that doesn't require the need to create a modified .ipsw and process a full restore through iTunes. Its called QuickPwn.

News is just out of a new way to jailbreak your iPhone, and this time the tool is specifically designed to work "quickly and easily, without requiring a full restore." Quickpwn has been released as a beta, intended to complement the main PwnageTool.

Microsoft better at patching XP than Vista? - A Microsoft security executive released data Thursday showing that, six months after shipping Windows Vista, his company has left more publicly disclosed Vista bugs unpatched than it did with Windows XP. In total, Microsoft has patched 12 out of 27 disclosed Vista vulnerabilities in the six months after it first shipped last November. During XP's first six months, Microsoft's security team patched 36 out of 39 known bugs. The data was published by Jeff Jones, a Microsoft security strategy director, who said that overall, Vista was doing better than XP. "Windows Vista continues to show a trend of fewer total and fewer high-severity vulnerabilities at the six month mark compared to its predecessor product, Windows XP," he wrote.

Jones didn't address the larger number of unpatched vulnerabilities, but he did note most of the unpatched Vista bugs were not critical. Microsoft had left only one high-severity Vista vulnerability unpatched during the period. At the end of XP's first six months, there were two high-severity bugs that were unpatched. Microsoft patched 23 high-severity XP bugs during its first six months, compared with only one high-severity Vista flaw. Jones argued that Vista had a lower number of vulnerabilities than competitive operating system products such as Red Hat Enterprise Linux and Mac OS X.
