Volvo treasure hunt delayed after locating $500 million instead

Volvo treasure hunt delayed after locating $500 million instead – Filed under: Transportation In an interesting turn of events, it seems like the winner of Volvo’s lucrative treasure hunt won’t be unearthing the $50,000 treasure anytime soon, as the automaker’s hunt partner (Odyssey Marine Exploration) has happened upon an actual $500 million treasure instead. The reported fortune is located somewhere in the Atlantic Ocean — in a secretive area known only as Black Swan — but reports are claiming that a court in the Spanish coastal town of La Linea has “issued an order for the Spanish Guardia Civil to detain any Odyssey vessel should it leave the port of Gibraltar,” which has brought about an abrupt halt to Volvo’s retrieval plans. Thankfully, it sounds like the Russian winner will still be awarded the dough and a new XC70 to boot, but there’s no telling how long it’ll be before Odyssey is able to put aside its bigger worries and dig up the (comparatively) paltry $50k. Fastcgi and the dreaded aborted: select() failed

I was getting reports of "500 Internal Server Errors" on two of my web servers. And after further investigation it looks like it was related to the following error.

Have Windows 2003 event viewer alerts sent to a network syslog server

I stumbled upon a little application called "evtsys" that was created by some Computer Engineering folks at Purdue University. The program runs on Microsft Windows 2000/2003/Vista 32-bit or 64-bit version and sends eventlog messages to a networked syslog server. You can then have syslog either print out the alert or write to a file.

MySQL and OpenSSL Replication what a mess!

Just a heads up, if you do decide to enable OpenSSL so you can do encrypted MySQL replication. There are two bugs that will affect replication and the mysqldump command. They're as follows: Bug #24148 regression tests hang with SSL enabled http://bugs.mysql.com/bug.php?id=24148 http://lists.mysql.com/commits/17286 Bug #27669 mysqldump: Got error: 2026: SSL connection error when trying to connect http://bugs.mysql.com/bug.php?id=27669 http://lists.mysql.com/commits/24329 This may cause lots of problems with MySQL and SSL Replication using OpenSSL. Cheers!

Auto Bounced Messages Management vBulletin Module Helps Purge Bad Email Address On Your Forum

I was browsing through my mail spool on my machine, and I noticed that there were some messages in one of my accounts for a vBulletin forum. After further review, it was some bounce backs that had accumulated from users that didn't have a valid email address. I then started to do some Google searches for a vBulletin module (vBulletin's search is horrendous and practically useless) and found this module.

Instant Jailbreak for iPhone and iPod touch

Afraid of bricking your iPhone, or not as savy as most to jailbreak your iphone? Well a group hackers have released an instant jailbreak online. You just need to point your iPhone's Safari to http://jailbreakme.com/ and follow the on screen instructions.
A crew of hackers (including hdm/metasploit, rezn, dinopio, drudge, kroo, pumpkin, davidc, dunham, and NerveGas) have introduced a one-touch instant jailbreak for both iPhone and iPod touch. The jailbreak opens your iPhone for full disk access and installs Installer.app so you can add pretty much any third party application you like.
