1. Stop using apache
digg Although apache is great for websites with under 10 visitors per day, for a big site like digg it is the worst server software you can choose. Many sites with the same amount of traffic are using lighttpd. It is safe, easy to use and about 100 times faster then apache.

2. Get more servers
Most of the time more does not equal better, but I guess with the amount of money you guys are making, you can easily afford to buy some new hardware. This should help you guys to spread the load.

3. Enough with the 1000 javascript/css includes
Seriously, how many files does it take for only the main page to work? 15! Can you believe this? 15 files being included every time someone visits the main page. 1000 visitors equals 15000 extra requests on the server. What makes it even worst is that most of the javascript includes are not even compressed. Did you guys ever heard of mootools?

Iran.com sold for $400,000

I got this link from a friend over MSN, interesting read, almost over a million dollars spent on domains.
Rick Latona of DigiPawn.com went on a spending spree this week and more than half a million dollars later he was the proud new owner of Iran.com ($400,000), TrackAndField.com ($57,000), Territory.com ($30,000) and Gutter.com ($12,500). The first three names all landed on the top half of our new Top 20 chart and Gutter.com just missed making the Big Board. All four names were acquired in private transactions. In addition to being the biggest sale reported this week, Iran.com is the 6th biggest sale reported so far in 2007.

AMD price cuts

AMD had to cut some of its pricing for its processors, Intel right now is offering $300 CAD for the Core Duo E6850 3.0Ghz which is a dual core processor. Hopefully Intel will start slashing some of its prices come Q1 2008.

800 Break-ins at Dept. of Homeland Security - WrongSizeGlass writes "Yahoo is reporting about the computer security nightmare going on at the Department of Homeland Security. Senior DHS officials admitted to Congress that over a two year period there were 800 hacker break-ins, virus outbreaks and in one instance, hacker tools for stealing passwords and other files were found on two internal Homeland Security computer systems. I guess it's true what they say ... a mechanic's car is always the last to get fixed."
